Thomas W. Bergin, Sr. age 86 of Melbourne, Florida formerly of Mahopac, NY passed away January 7, 2013. Thomas was born November 16, 1926 in Astoria, Queens. Thomas was a World War II Veteran with the US Navy serving as a Signal man on the U.S. S. Sperry. He served 27 years with the Town of Carmel Police Department, retiring as Detective Sergeant. He then went on to become Town of Carmel Supervisor for two terms. Thomas was very active in the community and was involved in many civic organizations including serving on the Mahopac Central School board and as a former member of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally, he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Marie Woolley of Kent, NY. He is survived by his children, Susan Prezzano of Rhinebeck, NY, Thomas Bergin, Jr. of Satellite Beach, Florida, Michael Bergin of Port Saint Lucie, Florida and John Bergin of LaGrangeville, NY, his sister, Betty Tejral, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Tom's great saying was always K.I.S.S (keep it short and sweet).
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday January 19, 2013 from 1 – 4 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, 692 US Route 6, Mahopac, NY where funeral services will be held at 3 pm. Private cremation services were held in Florida.
