Walter "Skip" Tompkins, a lifelong resident of Mahopac Falls, NY passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the age of 90. He was born in Putnam Valley, NY on February 5, 1928, the son of Frank and Alice Tompkins.

Skip served his country honorably in the US Army as a Technician 4th Grade in the 1628th Engineer Utilities Detachment and was a life member of VFW Post 5491 in Mahopac. Skip was a retired operating engineer with Local 137 in Briarcliff Manor, NY and a life member of the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department as well.

On September 30, 1950 he married Marjorie Upham at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Carmel, NY. Besides his loving wife of 68 years, he is survived by his son, Terry (Brenda) of Englewood, FL, his daughters, Alice Bennett (Robert) of Fishkill, NY, Joyce Dearman (Joseph) of Hopewell Junction, NY and Ellen Barker (Thomas) of Mahopac, his sister, Barbara Schull, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Douglas and ten siblings.

Visiting will be held on Tuesday, October 16 from 4-8 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 17 at 10 am at the funeral home with interment to follow at Ballard-Barrett Cemetery, Mahopac Falls.
