Virginia Rita Russell, born 8/10/38 in Brooklyn, NY, to parents John and Virginia Pendergast, died early Saturday morning, 11/17/18, at the age of 80 in Mooresville, NC where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Joe Amiano. Virginia was a devoted wife, to Joseph J. Russell, Jr. who passed away September 30, 2009, and mother of three, John, Joseph, and Laura. She is survived by her children, and their spouses, Kristina, Lesley, and Joe, and her grandchildren Mitchel, Marc, Jaclyn, Carlianne, Jenna, Angeline, and Joey, along with her sister, Janet Brennnan. Her sister, Joyce Lewis, passed away February 26, 2016.

Virginia was incredibly loved by her family and will be very missed. She will be remembered as a strong, courageous woman who was devoted to God, passionate about her family, and a prayer warrior for Jesus--always interceding and praying for her family. Despite her breathing challenges caused by COPD, Virginia would let nothing get in the way of traveling across the country to California or up north to New York from North Carolina to visit and spend time with her grandchildren. Her favorite thing to do was to fly out and visit them on all their birthdays and take them shopping for their favorite birthday gifts. Her sweet, easy-going personality blessed so many. Her children and grandchildren would enjoy hours of fun card games, conversations, and just hanging out watching TV shows with her.

In Virginia's earlier career days, she was a dedicated teacher aid for 25 years at the Northern Westchester/Putnam BOCES at the Pines Bridge School where she impacted the lives of many students with her loving care and support. Mahopac, NY is where she spent most of her years with her husband raising their children in the friendly Lake MacGregor community where many special lifetime friendships and memories were made.

Virginia will be missed by her family and many others whose lives she touched. Her service times and location are as follows: Viewing Service times are Sunday, 11/25, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. Mass will be on Monday, 11/26, at 10am at St. John's Catholic Church in Mahopac, NY. In lieu of flowers the family has asked to please make donations to Virginia's favorite charity, St. Jude's.

We love you Mom.
