Karen O. Spallina of Mahopac, NY (formerly of Carmel, NY) passed away in her home surrounded by family on November 9, 2017 at the age of 64. She was born at Mahopac Hospital on May 17, 1953, the daughter of Richard and Patricia (Conway) Othmer. Karen earned her Bachelor's degree from Monmouth University and her Master's Degree from Western Connecticut. Karen was a teacher in Dover School District from 1974-1980 and in Carmel Central School District from 1996-2015.

Karen lived her entire life in Putnam County. She was raised in Mahopac and raised her own family in Kent Cliffs. Last year, Karen moved to a new home on Lake Mahopac—footsteps from the hospital where she was born.

She will be remembered for her light-hearted spirit, her creativity, and her witty sense of humor.

Karen is survived by her husband Joseph, her mother Patricia Othmer, her children Joseph (Trishia), Matthew (Laura), Susan S. Twaddell (Oliver), and Jillian Spallina; her siblings Patti Jean Wollman (Paul), Richard Othmer, Jr. (Irene), and James Othmer (Judy); her grandchildren Elizabeth, Annabel, Carly Ann, and Savannah; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitations are scheduled for Wednesday, November 15th from 4-8 PM, and Thursday, November 16th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 17th at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Angels Chapel in Mahopac. A private cremation was held prior to services.
