Karen L. Yates of Carmel, NY passed away on Friday September 15, 2017 at the age of 45. She was born in Brooklyn on March 10, 1972, the daughter of Rocco and Elsie Nordgren Matteo.

Karen was a Public Health Program Assistant for the Putnam County Department of Health.

Karen is survived by her daughter Sarah, her brother Anthony Matteo and her sister Kristina Russell and her brother-in-law John, all of Carmel, her nieces and nephews and her former husband Brian.

Karen was an avid reader. She loved the beach and doing jigsaw puzzles. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and her loving and caring nature.

Karen was involved with girl scouting with her daughter Sarah, whom she loved so very much.

Visiting will be held on Monday September 18 from 4-8 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday September 19 at
11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster. Private cremation services will follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions for a college fund to be established for her daughter Sarah would be appreciated. Checks may be made payable to Kristina Russell while this fund is being established.
