Giulia Amato of Mahopac, NY and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on January 26, 2017 at the age of 81. She was born in Gaeta, Italy on May 23, 1935,the daughter of Gaetano and Francesca (Quagliozzi) Salemme. On April 30, 1955 she married Alfonso Amato. After the birth of their three children, they immigrated to the US and she worked as a seamstress for many years.

Giulia loved to cook, garden and collect trinkets. She loved to be around her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Recently she became involved in the senior center in her community. She made many friends and looked forward to going there every week. She adored the new friends she made there and they loved her as well. They showered her with gifts and wonderful memories. She was a special soul and always put a smile on our faces with her funny stories and her witty sense of humor. She will truly be missed and forever be in our hearts.

Giulia is survived by her son Joe Amato, daughter Ornella Porco, daughter Franca Dusovic and her husband Victor, sister Maria Moetta, brothers Antonio and Giuseppe Salemme, and her grandchildren Joey, Jennifer, Luca, Christopher, and Gianfranco. She was predeceased by her husband Alfonso in December of 2015.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Sunday, January 29th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 30th at 10AM at St. John The Evangelist Church, also in Mahopac. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
