Erwin A. Kraft passed into eternal life on October 24, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Hospital Center.
Mr. Kraft was born on March 16, 1919 in Long Island City, NY where he spent his youth. He enlisted in the US Army in June 1941. He served in the European Theater for three years and many other locations during his 21 years in the Army & National Guard, achieving the rank of Master Sargent. After WWII, Erwin went to work for IBM at World Trade Headquarters in Manhattan. He retired 30 years later as a Senior Technician.
While in the service he kept up communications with his one and only girlfriend. After the war he began the courtship in earnest and on September 21, 1947 married the love of his life, Mildred Anne Patricia Weber.
Together they raised four loving children. Most of their adult life was spent in Mahopac, NY.
In retirement Erwin & Mildred took advantage of Erwin's retired military status to travel several times to Europe & the west coast to visit their children & grandchildren. They were in St. Peter's Square when Pope John Paul II was shot in 1981.
Erwin is survived by son Kenneth & wife Janet from Poughkeepsie; daughter Audrey & husband Stephen Falkowski from Hopewell Junction, granddaughter Sarah Falkowski-Wood & great-grandson Jareth Wood; son Douglas and wife Denise & grandson Devon from Spring Valley, CA and daughter Lauren and husband William Harakidas and granddaughters Genevieve & Jessica from Las Vegas, NV. Erwin was predeceased by Mildred and his grandson, Daniel Kraft.
Erwin lived at the Fountains in Millbrook for the past 5 years.

Erwin touched the lives of every person he met. He will be dearly missed but we all rest in the comfort of knowing he has now been reunited with the love of his live.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the USO in Erwin's name.

Visiting Friday October 28 from 3-7 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday October 29 at 10 am at St. John The Evangelist Church, Mahopac with interment to follow at Ballard-Barrett Cemetery, Mahopac Falls.
