Erich H. Bayer of Somers, NY passed away peacefully on November 4, 2016 at the age of 81 with his family and closest friends by his side. He was born in Nuremberg, Germany on August 16, 1935, the son of Hans and Lisa Bayer.

Erich emigrated to the US in 1953, settling in Rego, Park, NY. After living in Irvington and Hawthorne, NY he lived in Mahopac, NY for 25 years before moving to Somers 12 years ago.

He earned his Bachelors degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and served in the U S Army. Erich was a senior engineer with IBM Corp. retiring in 1986. He then started his own firm, Support Systems, Inc. which worked in semiconductors. He later sold his firm to Pentagon Technologies.

He was a Mason and a member of the German-American Club of Putnam Valley, NY as well as an honorary lifetime member of Die Gemuetlichen Enzianer, a Bavarian dance group in Franklin Square, NY.

On September 25, 1960 he married Marianne Hauck at St. Joseph's Church in Astoria, Queens. In addition to Marianne, he is survived by his sons, Mark, Chris (Jose) and Greg (Crystal), his sister Christa (Ludwig) Arnegger and his grandchildren Reilly, McKenzie and Braedon.

Visiting will be held on Monday from 7-9 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am at St. John The Evangelist Church in Mahopac. Private cremation services will follow and interment of Erich's cremains will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne at a later date.
