Carmelina Cavarretta of Mahopac, NY passed away on Monday September 11, 2017 at the age of 63 with her family by her side. She was born in San Benedetto Ullano, Cosenza, Italy on July 23, 1954, the daughter of Antonio and Ernestina Arturi Pastura.

Carmelina was educated in Italy. She married Joseph Cavarretta in Italy on October 17, 1971 and together they emigrated to the United States and settled in Mt. Vernon, NY before moving to Mahopac in 1982.

Carmelina worked for Macy's in the Jefferson Valley Mall for 25 years in fine jewelry sales. She loved shopping, gardening, flowers and flower arranging, but most of all loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and also her friends.

She is survived by her husband Joseph, her children Gino and wife Maria of Yorktown Heights, NY, Anthony and wife Angela of Stormville, NY, Angelina Szabo and husband Michael of the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY and Joseph Jr. and fiancée Rachel Courtney of Mahopac. She is also survived by her brothers, Peppino, Carletto and Mario Pastura, all of Italy; her sisters Teresa Caracciolo and Maria Gentile of Italy, Gina Musacchio of Switzerland, her twin sister, Franca Schiavone of Italy and Lisa Marchese of Germany and her seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Christopher and Nicholas Cavarretta, Vincent and Juliana Cavarretta and Robert and Paul Szabo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be held on Thursday, September 14 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 15 at 11:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac with interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY.
