Barbara M. Vara of Mahopac, NY passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, she was 81. Born in Yonkers, NY to the late Harold and Mary (Quinn) Price. On May 7th, 1960, she married the love of her life, Anthony Vara at the Church of The Immaculate Conception in Yonkers, New York; they were married for 56 years.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband Anthony, her daughter Patricia Hickey and her husband Neil, her sons Thomas and Robert Vara, her sisters Lorraine Morrison, Marjorie Holder, Arlene Tiso, and Nancy Mulligan, her brother Harold Price; and her beloved granddaughters Allison and Ashley Hickey. She was predeceased by her sister Joan Price.
Barbara was a homemaker until her children were grown, she then worked in Lakeland School District and in retail at Alexander's and Sears. She enjoyed dancing and collecting tea pots and ceramic poodles. A favorite pastime was going to Atlantic City with her husband and her sisters, she especially enjoyed playing the slot machines. She was a volunteer with her husband at the St. John's Food Pantry.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Friday, March 17th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18th at 10AM at St. John The Evangelist Church in Mahopac. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
