Carmine C. Iannone of Somers, NY passed away at the NYS Veterans Home in Montrose on February 25, 2019 at the age of 96. He was born in Salerno, Italy on June 9, 1922, the son of Luigi and Adelaide (neƩ DeSimone) Iannone. Carmine was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served under General George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1945 and married Julia DeRose in 1946.

As a returning veteran he had several jobs before settling into the meat business. He then opened his own butcher shop in East Harlem, NY and worked for several decades before retiring in 1977.

Upon retirement he took up tennis which became one of his favorite pastimes and he played well into his late 80's. Carmine learned to cook and enjoyed meals with his family especially traditional Sunday dinner. He was an outgoing personality who invited everyone into his home to share a drink or a meal.

Carmine is survived by his daughters Adelaide Polito (Frank Annunziato), Roseanne Locascio, and Lois Hanley (Chris); his brother Ben Yannone (June); grandchildren Anthony Polito, Julie Deagan, Sean Hanley, and Michael Hanley; Eight great grandchildren Amanda, TJ, Jake, Hunter, Chace, Christian, Madison and Sienna; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Julia and his sisters Mary and Nancy.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Thursday, February 28th from 3-8 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac. A prayer service will begin at 7:30 PM during the visitation. Committal prayers and interment will take place at Raymond Hill Cemetery at 11 AM on Friday, March 1st.
