Condolence & Memory Journal

Bummer! Cousin Randy and I have exchanged messages and family photos over the years, after a long separation from our childhood family visits, in both Canada and Peekskill. Having received no answer to the latest mid-January e-mail, I tried to find his phone number through on-line searching. To see his obituary today, at the top of the list, was not a complete shock, but it was a huge disappointment, along with regreat that we could not meet again in person, as our lives have many parallels. We both enjoy owning old cars, and collecting recorded music. We both eloped to get married, in the same year, I believe. A Delong nephew, my brother's son, who works in New York City, will marry a girl from nearby New Jersey on September 7. That would have been a good time to pass through Mahopac for a short visit. I urge Randy's family to get in touch with his Canadian relatives - mostly cousins. Randy's father, Walter, moved from Peterborough Ontario, to what we called, "The States", before 1950. He visited often during the 50s and 60s, first with Vivian, and later with Mary Jo, I believe. I can picture Walter reclining on our family room floor, on his last visit to Canada- can even imagine his voice.

I can't handle saying goodbye. You were always my idol, my "go to" for everything. The hurt is immeasurable, but am comforted by the knowledge that your suffering has ended. Your vast knowledge of everything was such a gift, your deep compassion for everyone was amazing, your principles were examples that others should strive for. You were one of the GREATEST people in the WORLD to me, shared only with my Father and Mommy! I love you bunches my big Brother and rejoice in knowing we will all be reunited again one day! Until that day I will strive to walk the walk and follow the path to be a better person so one day I will be worthy of joining the rest of the family, who are no doubt Heavenly Angels! Until that day I hope you watch over all of us and help us find the answers to everything we always turned to you for. I love and miss you beyond belief! Give everyone up there my love, your sister and biggest fan, Kelly (Kell)

If there was ever anyone that you would want as a friend it was Randy. He never had an unkind word to say about anybody and was always concerned about you even when he had serious health issues.
I had many wonderful conversations with Randy at the car cruises that we attended and always looked forward to seeing him.
Randy told me many times how he adored his wife Mary who is a wonderful strong person. Randy, rest in peace. You have many friends and family who will carry you in there hearts forever. Your friend, Billy Nicholson
