Tribute & Message From The Family

Angela "Pansy" Gartlan (nee McGovern) of Hyde Park, NY passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 25, 2019. She was 77 years old. She was born in Dunboyne, County Meath, Ireland on February 18, 1941, the daughter of John and Angela (nee Byrne) McGovern. She emigrated to the United States when she was 17 years old. She began her life in America in New York City until she moved to the Hudson Valley, with 25 very happy years spent in Pine Plains, NY.

Throughout her life, Angela was a consistently loving, fearless, and devoted mother and grandmother. She had a passion for the outdoors, spending hours planting, gardening, bird watching, caring for family pets, and saving wildlife. She was a true plant enthusiast and artist who could rival any florist. Most importantly, she was the family problem-solver.

As the second oldest of nine children, Angela kept in close contact with her many siblings, nieces, and nephews overseas, whom continue to carry out her memory in their hometown. They include her sisters Patricia McGovern, Kitty and Eddie Behan and family, Olive and Martin Heffernan and family, Carmel and Martin Daly and family, Anne and Martin Connolly and family, her brother Sean and Terri McGovern and family, and many other devoted relatives. She held her family to the highest regard, always maintaining strong family ties regardless of the miles between them.

Angela is survived by her son Sean Gartlan and his wife Christine, her daughter Laura Kepler and her husband Ken, her daughter Deborah Kivel and her husband Michael, and her loving grandchildren: Cara Kepler and her husband Alan Veach, Samantha and Dylan Kivel, Mallaidh Gartlan, Tara Vicaro and family, and John Marchioni and family. She is predeceased by her cherished parents, oldest sister Laura McGovern, and youngest brother Stephen McGovern.

Ms. Gartlan was transferred back to her beloved Ireland for funeral services and interment. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Memorial services in the United States are scheduled for Saturday, March 9th at 3PM at the family's private residence.
