Tribute & Message From The Family

John Robertson Blair passed away peacefully at his home on New Year's Day 1/1/19, surrounded by family. He was 97 years old. He grew up in New Rochelle, New York. John was an avid sailor and rowed crew competitively in his early years .He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier. He flew in a B-17 (Flying Fortress) and was discharged with a rank of Captain. John received numerous medals during his tour including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with five oak leafs representing 25 missions.

After John's time in the service, he returned to his job at the Bowery Savings Bank in NYC where he retired after 41 years as a vice president. John and his wife Irene moved to Truesdale Lake in 1951 where they raised their four sons. He was an outdoorsman, hiking, camping, ice skating and sailing. He was an active member of his community serving as a Boy Scout Leader of Troup 1, Lewisboro, Truesdale Beach Club Board, and founder of the Truesdale Sunfish Sailing Fleet (nationally registered).

John was a founding committee member of the Lewisboro Parks & Recreation commission, an active member of the South Salem Presbyterian Church, Lewisboro Library, and life member of both Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps & Lewisboro Lions. His volunteer ethic was a role model for his family.

John is survived by his son John & wife Deborah of Mineral, Virginia, son Peter & his wife Barbara of Cross River, New York, seven grandchildren & six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene, and sons Paul & Christopher.
