Tribute & Message From The Family

Eleanor "Cissy" Abruzzese, formerly of Yorktown Heights, NY and currently of Shirley, Long Island, NY passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the age of 67. Cissy was born in Queens, NY on August 27, 1951, the daughter of Dr. Louis and Eleanor Redding Sirica.

While living in Yorktown Heights, she worked in banking including Mahopac National Bank and Gold Dome. After Yorktown Heights, she lived for a time in Maryland where she was an office manager for an HVAC firm prior to relocating back to New York, settling in Shirley, Long Island.

Cissy loved music, especially the Beatles. She was a child actress and singer who sang with Guy Lombardo and appeared on the "Ted Mack Show" singing "Gary, Indiana". She loved reading and studied Egypt and archeology.

Cissy truly had an eclectic personality. She had many varied interests and friends. She loved motorcycles and animals were dear to her heart. She often would donate to the "Defenders of Animals" organization which works as an animal rescue.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Abruzzese of Shirley, her daughter, Dr. Eleanor DeThomas of Yorktown Heights, her step children, Megan Weber and Patrick Abruzzese, her step grandchildren Margo Abruzzese and Lincoln Weber and her former husband, Patrick DeThomas. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Sirica.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 1 pm to 4 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home. Private cremation services were held earlier.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Cissy may be made to an animal rescue organization of your choice.

Cissy was a hoot! She never changed in the more than 50 yrs we were friends. She was authentic and good to the core! Her personality is portrayed in her smile: warm, genuine, caring. We were blessed that Cissy and her husband, Roy Abruzzese, joined our family at holiday gatherings for many years. We cherish each visit spent with our family in Maryland. How you were loved by so many, dear friend! May your soul and the souls of all the faithful departed Rest In Peace.
